Ashley Tisdale Dance With Hellcats Team: Ashley Tisdale is moving on up in the world of televised academia. Make that way up and then back down, with a soft landing. As a college cheerleader in the new CW series Hellcats (premiering Wednesday at 9 p.m. ET/PT), the former Disney High School Musicalstar is literally flying high.

"I have actually done a flying stunt and a basket toss," says Tisdale, 25, who also has a stunt double for the trickiest moves. "Obviously I don't want to get hurt, but I feel really comfortable. ... I like a challenge."

Tisdale plays fictional Lancer University Hellcats cheer captain Savannah Monroe, who raises eyebrows when she adds an unknown, atypical member to the squad after an injury forces another member out. The actress felt the part was a perfect fit for what is both her first dramatic role and her first regular broadcast series role.

Yes, there's some CW-style drama, but also the high-energy music and dancing that comes along with competitive cheerleading — a natural follow-up to her Disney turn as sassy Sharpay Evans. It's also a move that she hopes will entice her maturing HSM fans to stick with her.

Ashley Tisdale Videos: Captain Savannah Monroe: Ashley Tisdale is opening up about her captain Savannah Monroe character in the new series, Hellcats. The 25-year-old actress joked about Savannah, “She is a neat freak! She’s completely organized and definitely focused. She’s been in her own cheerleading bubble for so long and it’s her whole life. With her and Marti being roommates, they free each other with that.”

Costar pal Aly Michalka chimed in on the Savannah-Marti friendship, saying, “I love that they become friends. There’s this offbeat, quirky relationship with the two of them that — these girls who really don’t have that much in common, actually respect each other.”

In the upcoming episode “I Say A Little Prayer,” Marti (Michalka) is horrified when she discovers Wanda (Gail O’Grady) in the audience at qualifiers and banishes her from the stadium. After Charlotte (guest star Emma Lahanna), Savannah’s (Ashley Tisdale) sister and captain of the Hellcats’ rival team from Memphis Christian college, falls and suffers a serious injury, Savannah is torn between going with her sister to the hospital and staying to compete.

Savannah tells Marti her parents stopped talking to her when she decided to transfer from Memphis Christian to the secular Lancer University, forcing Marti to re-think her stance on Wanda attending qualifiers. Meanwhile, Lewis (Robbie Jones) blasts Alice (Heather Hemmens) for putting all their scholarships at risk, and Dan (Matt Barr) takes an interest in Savannah.

In the full article, both girls talk about their backgrounds in the world of athleticism. Aly shared, “I was in competitive dance companies when I was a teenager, and heavily involved in hip-hop and free-styling. I would never have imagined myself being on a cheerleading show. I am the last girl on earth you would point out and say, ‘She’s the cheerleader type’ because I am much more the Marti — that kind that hands back and isn’t part of the crowd, who paves her own path.”

Ashley shared about taking on the role, “I felt like The CW was the right fit for me and my audience and growing and moving on a bit from the High School Musical franchise. I read all of [The CW] scripts, and this was the only one I went out for. It’s a lot of fun! It’s really juicy.”
